brackish supports md anderson cancer center
In support of Breast Cancer Awareness during the month of October, Brackish will be donating a portion of sales from our brand-new hoop earring collection to MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas.
We are highlighting this specific center in honor of Dr. Chelsea Oswald, a long-time friend of co-founder, Jeff Plotner, and his wife Courtney, who is currently battling metastatic breast cancer.
Meet Chelsea
Chelsea Oswald is a friend who's more like family to co-founder Jeff Plotner and his wife Courtney. The three met while at Wofford college nearly 20 years ago, and today they all reside in Charleston, SC.
In September of 2020 Chelsea was diagnosed with stage IV metastatic breast cancer. To aid in the facilitation of continued research and support Chelsea in her fight we are donating a portion of all sales from our brand-new hoop collection to MD Anderson Cancer Center where Chelsea receives treatment in Houston, Texas.
ABOUT THE CAUSE
After beginning traditional chemotherapy treatment, a friend and fellow Wofford alumna in Houston encouraged Chelsea to meet with MD Anderson’s Dr. Debasish Tripathy, whose cutting-edge research was seeing strong results through targeted hormonal-based therapy.
While the idea of ceasing chemo was a scary one, upon meeting the team, Chelsea felt an immediate sense of relief. Being surrounded by an extremely knowledgeable and supportive community was comforting for Chelsea, as she knew she would be treated as an individual with customized care based on her needs.
“I feel extremely fortunate to be under the care of Dr. Tripathy and the team at The MD Anderson Advanced Breast Cancer Clinic. The program has offered me exposure to the most current research-based treatments as well as invaluable patient support programs and a sense of community and hope. This fundraiser means so much to me and has touched my heart in so many ways. Not only do I love the design of the Chelsea, I feel like it embodies my personality and style. These earrings will forever hold a special place in my heart, and I feel so blessed to have the incredible support of the Brackish community.”
